(Mighty Works Music - 2010)

Mighty Howard was born Howard Bridges in the United States. Like many other artists, his first encounter with music was through the church as a child. After travelling around extensively, he now lives in Hamburg where he works as a DJ and performs as a solo artist, with bands and as an MC/vocalist with many different sound systems, including I-Livity I-Fi and Roots Commandment. He also whipped up the massives across Europe as MC for Dubmatix and recently shared a stage with Nina Hagen. His debut single, “Run From Di Thunder”, was released on Planet Dread Records. The timeless root tune was produced by Pensi (Ire Hi-Fi) on a riddim played by Andreas Brikalin. “Irieness”, his second single, was released by Irie Ites Music and features Howard’s gentle vocals singing a positive message on top of Dubmatix’s "Rough Out" riddim. In November 2009, he teamed up with Dubmatix and booked some time at Aldubb's Planet Earth Studio in Berlin. In a three-day session the three musicians recorded the Berlin Sessions (Irie Ites Music), without having previously worked on ideas. The result is impressive proof of the congenial synergies that were at work here, showing that Howard is capable of writing pretty damn good lyrics in next to no time. The CD features the tracks “Warriors Call”, “Mount Zion Trad” and “Rock The Night”, presenting the many sides of Howard: at times pugnacious and full of hope, at others romantic and soft. The collaboration with Aldubb, one of Germany’s premier reggae and dub producers, became more intense over the following months. He penned the riddims for “Jah Soldier”, “Mother Earth”, “Nah Fear” and “Pon Jah Road”. “Hazard” was put down on a dub version which Aldubb mixed for the Senior Allstars. It doesn’t get more mystical than this track… Two further riddims came from the french sound system Livity Access. Howard’s lyrics – infused with deep consciousness – sit on top of the roots riddims with incredible sensitivity. The album finishes with a bonus acoustic version of “Home”, played and sung live for a Freies Radio Kassel radio show. Reduced to a bare minimum of vocals and guitar, this is Howard at his most intimate and authentic. A beautiful, deeply moving finish for a truly multifaceted album!
